Recommended motion:
1. That Elias Shehab, Sewer Maintenance Supervisor be authorized to attend sewer
maintenance training to be conducted by the College of Engineering at the University
of Wisconsin in Madison from February 13-15, 1995.
2. That funds in the amount of $2,050 be transferred from Account No. 001-403-54104
(Other Professional Services) to Account No. 001-403-53312 (Education and Training)
to provide specialized sewer maintenance training for Elias Shehab, Sewer Maintenance
Supervisor to be conducted by the Colllege of Engineering at the University of
Wisconsin in Madison to be held February 13-15, 1995.

.CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
The Public Services Department is requesting authorization to send Elias Shehab, Sewer Maintenance Supervisor to
a specialized sewer maintenance training course in Madison, Wisconsin sponsored by the College of Engineering at
the University of Wisconsin. This training will be held February 13-15, 1995. Several of the keynote speakers come
from municipalities with systems similar to the City's and share some of the same problems and obstacles we are
facing.
Training will be provided in the following areas which meets the needs of the department:
Preventative maintenance techniques
Maintenance equipment and methods
Television inspection techniques
Implementation of the computerized management program,
pipeline inventory and manhole numbering system
Computer mapping/GIS applications
Root intrusion
Repair and reconstruction techniques
Repair vs. replacement of sewer lines
Funds are available in the Sewer Maintenance budget and can be transferred from Account No. 001-403-54104 (Other
Professional Services) to Account No. 001-403-53312 (Education and Training) to provide for this training.
It is recommended that the request for specialized sewer maintenance training be approved.
