CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
Each year since 1987, the California State Legislature, in keeping
with the Congressional declaration of March 8 as International
Women's Day, designates the month of March as "Women's History
Month." Observation of Women's History Month by the City of San
Bernardino begins with a Mayoral Proclamation early in March. The
Women of Achievement Planning Committee organizes and plans a
luncheon to honor the women nominated and selected as Women of
Achievement in the five employee classifications. The 1995 Women
of Achievement Luncheon is set for March 23, 1995, at the Radisson
Hotel.
In November, 1989 and February, 1991, the Women of Achievement
Planning Committee requested and received approval for funding
from the City's Civic and Promotion Fund. In previous years, the
committee has successfully held fundraising activities and received
donations to financially organize the Women of Achievement
luncheons, without funding assistance from the city.
The Women of Achievement Planning Committee is appointed by the
Mayor each year in August or September; however, this year, the
committee was not appointed until January. Due to time
constraints, the committee does not have sufficient time to sponsor
fundraising activities as has been done in previous years to fund
the March 23, 1995 Women of Achievement Luncheon, and therefore
respectfully requests assistance in the sum of $850.00.
