That the Mayor and Common Council authorize the Director of Finance to increase the FY 1998-99
Cemetery Construction Fund budget by $8,000 as outlined in the attached staff report.

CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
The adoption of a budget in the Cemetery Construction Fund (Fund 244) is necessary based on
certain capital improvements identified as needed in this fiscal year.
Background
The Cemetery Construction Fund does not have an approved 1998/99 budget as no projects were
anticipated. However, the City agreed to share the cost of upgrading the common fencing between
Pioneer Cemetery and The Home of Eternity Cemetery, which is the Jewish Cemetery, located
adjacent to the City Cemetery on the West Side at Sierra Way. In addition, inspection of the
backflow device at the Cemetery revealed that it must be replaced in order to meet State and City
clean water requirements. This device is old and outdated and parts are no longer available for
simple repairs.
Following is a summary of costs for the above items:
Home of Eternity Fencing $5,500
Purchase & Installation of
Backflow Device $2,500
TOTAL $8,000
Financial Impact
Funds for this budget increase will come from the undesignated fund balance of the Cemetery
Construction Fund. As of June 30, 1998 that balance was $17,600. This action will approve the use
of$8,000 of the balance. Council approval is required for a budget appropriation increase.
Recommendation
Authorize the Director of Finance to amend the FY 1998-99 budget and transfer $8,000 from
undesignated fund balance in the Cemetery Construction Fund for construction of improvements
(account 244-364-5504-0000).
