ZDINO - REQUEST P I COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT REQUEST FOR WAIVER OF FEES IN THE AMOUNT OF $452.50 FOR USE OF STURGES AUDITORIUM BY THE MIRE C PRODUCTION COMPANY. The Mike C Production Company, through Executive Producer Michael Smith, is requesting the waiver of fees for the use of Sturges Auditorium on February 5, 1994 . Cost for the use of the auditorium is $452 . 50. Resolution 91-35 allows the Mayor and the Common Council to exempt non-profit corporations and associations organized primarily for patriotic, civic betterment or charitable purposes from the rates and fee schedules for the use of parks and recreation facilities, services and equipment under the condition that paying the fees would create a hardship and if the event is of unusual benefit to the citizens of San Bernardino. This department recommends denial of the request based on the following: 1. The applicant is not non-profit. 2 . The payment of the fee does not constitute a financial hardship since the event has the capability of generating $3,715 through admission fees. 3 . The event is not of unusual public benefit since there are already a variety of talent shows and information fairs. 4 . City Council has previously taken the position of not waiving fees for Sturges Auditorium with the intention of recovering as much of its operating costs as possible. MIKE C PRODUCTION PRESENTS SAN BERNARDINO' S FIRST ANNUAL AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY TALENT SHOWCASE AND "EXTRAVAGANZA" Re: The First Annual African American Talent Showcase. Council Members : In most major cities there is usually an information gap between city administration and the people of the community. To bridge that gap it takes teamwork from everybody in the city. By granting this showcase to become an annual event in San Bernardino you are laying the foundation for the bridge to be built. The community needs more activities and programs for the youths of San Bernardino. This showcase will highlight local talent from the area, give local merchants a chance to show and sell their goods, give the programs from the police department-fire department-"Kids Against Crime" ect. . . to pass out literature and talk to the community about the various programs they have to offer to people in need of their services and assistance. To make this possible there will be booths do- nated to non-profit organizations such as the ones aforementioned. The positive affect from this event on the community will be outstanding, giving the people of San Bernardino a little more positive knowledge about themselves and their community. *Note* If the fees for the Sturges Theatre cannot be waived-we would like for the city to meet us halfway with the price. Any assistance that we receive will be greatly appreciated. This will be an annual event with your assistance and co-operation. Thank you, This is a short list of some of the agencies and programs who will receive invitations to attend and participate in the show.
