CITY OF SAN BERN! IDINO - REQUEST P I COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
A request was received from a citizen for a 4-wale stop to
be installed at the intersection of 27th Street and "H" Street.
Based on an investigation conducted by the Traffic Engineering
Staff, and an evaluation by the Traffic Safety Committee , it is
recommended that the request for a 4-way stop be denied, but that
the existing 2-way stop be reversed, from "H" Street to 27th
Street, so that instead of stopping "H" Street traffic, 27th
Street traffic will stop.
This recommendation is based upon the following items -
0 27th Street carries approximately 27% more vehicles
than "H" Street.
° "H" Street feeds an increasing number of traffic from
the nearby Route 30 freeway
° Intersection does not meet warrants for a 4-w,-117 stop
The major reason for recommending stop sign reversal is
that the major street ( "H" Street) current]-V stops fnr the miner
street (27th Street) . Additionally, "H" Street has a. potential
for much higher traffic in the future since it leads directly
into the Route 30 on and off ramps . y
To minimize potential confusion over the reversing
action, temporary flashing beacons will be installed on the
approaches to the "New" stop signs for a minimum of 2 weeks.
Additionally, "Cross Traffic Does Not Stop" signs will also be
installed.
We recommend that the recommendation to stop 27th street,
in lieu of "H" Street, be approved.
