SAN BERNARDINO TO TAKE VISITORS ON
A ROAD TRIP BACK IN TIME
SAN BERNARDINO
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (Feb. 5, 1993) -- The
famed Route 66, "America's Main Street, "
will again pave the way for the fourth annual Route 66
Rendezvous, Sept. 17, 18 & 19, in San Bernardino, Calif.
Expanded to three days, the event will celebrate Route
66, with vintage "rods, " cruises, a golf tournament and
street dance. Additionally, television stars from past and
present will make special guest appearances. Most event
activities are slated for the downtown San Bernardino
area surrounding City Hall, including the legendary "E"
Street.
The celebration will rev-up on Friday, Sept. 17 with a
golf tournament from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. , followed by the "E"
Street cruise from 5-10 p.m. Composer Bobby Troupe's road-
inspired "Route 66" tune will be one of many hip, finger-
poppin' tunes to rock downtown San Bernardino during a street
dance, 7-10 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 18 the Rendezvous gets off to a
rolling start with the World's Best Mystery Poker Run,
beginning at 11 a.m. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Events
are open to American-made vehicles, excluding low riders and
mini-trucks.

For everyone who puts "the pedal to the metal" when the
' police are out of site, there is a "legal" downtown Open
Header Cruise from 3-7 p.m. More than 1, 500 custom street
rods and other classic American-made automobiles will take to
the streets under the watchful eye of police, patrolling in
vintage squad cars, pulling over only those who aren't having
enough fun.
A custom and classic car show will steer activities in
the right direction on Sunday, Sept. 19, with a "Show and
Shine, " 7 a.m.-3 p.m. and cruising throughout the day. The
exhibition will feature an extensive display of street rods
and classics, many of which cruised the streets on Saturday.
The show will also feature drawings for gifts and prizes.
Route 66, which was officially designated as a federal
highway in 1926, stretches 2,400 miles from Chicago to Los
Angeles, covering eight states and three time zones.
San Bernardino, known as "The Friendly City, " is in
proximity to Ontario Airport and within a short driving
distance of beaches, deserts, mountain resorts, and wineries.
The Inland Empire region, including San Bernardino,
features an extensive regional park system stretching from
the base of the scenic San Gabriel Mountains through the high
and low desert to the majestic Colorado River. Visitors can
enjoy a variety of activities including mountain fishing,
water skiing, ghost towns, Victorian mansions, museums and
much more.
Information regarding special "Route 66 Rendezvous"
hotel packages, event registration and vendor participation
is available by calling the San Bernardino Convention &
Visitors Bureau at 909-889-3980 or 800-669-8336.
