CITY OF SAN BERN RDINO - REQUEST F �R COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
On July 1, 1992, the contract with the Fire Safety Employees expired. Their previous
contract was for an 18-month period--January 1, 1991, to July 1, 1992.
We have held 16 negotiation sessions between March 1992 and February 1993.
On March 3, 1993, one year after beginning negotiations with Fire Local 891, the City Team
sent a letter to Fire Local 891, declaring impasse and initiating impasse procedures. That
letter listed 25 areas of disagreement between the City Team and Fire Local 8+91.
As a result'of the impasse meetings'held on March 10, March 12, and March 19, 1993, we
reduced the areas of disagreement to 13 issues. We will follow Option B of the impasse
procedures from Resolution No. 10584:
(B) A DETERMINATION BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL,
after a hearing on the merits of the dispute.
RECOMMENDED MOTION -
That an impasse hearing on the contract with the Fire Safety Employees be scheduled at
10:00 a.m. on April 19, 1993.
