Synopsis of Previous Commission/Council/Committee Action(s):
On March 11, 1993, the Redevelopment Committee recommended to the
Community Development Commission approval of a one-year lease with
Don's Drug at a rate of $1,500 per month.

MOTION: That the Community Development Commission authorize the
Executive Director to develop and execute a one-year
lease with Don's Drug at a rate of $1,500 per month for
Agency-owned property located at 1222 West Fifth Street.

Dear Mr. Steinhaus
Don's Drug, 1222 W 5th Street, San Bernardino is unable at
this time to sign a long term lease. This is due to several
factors.
1.Redevolpment has opened another center including a SAVE ON
Drug which cuts severely in to my trade area.
2.The area where the store is has so severely deteriorated
!- with derelicts and panhandlers, many of my regular customers
(especially women) are afraid to trade here.
I have no intention as of this time of moving or relocating
Don's Drug. I have taken care of a large percentage of the
cities Westside residents for many years. I feel my presence
- and caring have served the community well.
I would be willing to enter into a series of 1 year leases
with a 6 month termination clause at $1500.00 per month. I
also request my deposit plus interest be returned to me at
this time. I have been a good tenant and have fulfilled my
obligations on the lease faithfully.
