Memorandum

Coalition of San Bernardino Valley College
Subject: Proposal for funding of Cinco de Mayo Celebration
San Bernardino Valley College is now in its seventh decade. As a co-educational
two year community college, SBVC offers a comprehensive day and evening
program of transfer, technical occupational, and remedial education.
The campus is unique and rich in diversity. It is our hope that the city of San
Bernardino would find it beneficial to students, faculty, and community to fund a
Cinco de Mayo Celebration. We feel that our coalition of Chicano and Latino
organizations are capable of providing the college and community with three days
of a recognized cultural celebration, to be shared by all peoples.
Although we have held many similar celebrations in the past, we have not
suffered financial difficulties as we have experienced this year. It seems that our
budgets focused on leadership development conferences. We would like to
continue the tradition of providing the community with a Cinco de Mayo
Celebration.
Facilities and security costs are saved by having such an event on campus. This
year would be extraordinary because we plan to set aside one day to share this
celebration by feeding the homeless with authentic Mexican food.
We would like to provide children with the excitement of breaking traditional
Mexican pinatas, and feeding them cake and ice cream.
We are requesting funding for the following costs that will enable our coalition the
privilege of sharing Cinco de Mayo with children, students, and the community.
Wednesday - May 3
Entertainment (Mexican Music) $250.00
Decorations $100.00
Pinatas (for the children) $100.00

We believe that our efforts will provide a service to the Community and students.
It is our goal to build a strong relationship between the SBVC Campus and the
community.
Your providing of these funds will be greatly appreciated. Together we can be
proud of the rich diversity of the City of San Bernardino and San Bernardino
Valley College.
Sincerely,
Steven Caudillo
