We previously received a similar grant and are now eligible to apply for additional grant funding as we have not received such funding within the last five years . Applications must be received by OCJP by 5 : 00 pm on May 15, 1995 . The CCR grant will be for a one year funding cycle; however, funding for an additional two years will be available to successful applicants assuming that state funds remain at appropriate levels, and we successfully complete the grant award for the first year. Applicants for this grant may only apply for a maximum amount of $100, 000 state funding. The first years' grant and mandatory city match amounts are : $100, 000 Grant Funds 10 , 000 City Match (100) $110, 000 Project Total Funding requested for the second and third years would primarily cover the program specific objectives and activities, with increasing community involvement . Should these subsequent periods be awarded, separate budgets would be required at a later time. A twenty percent cash match would be required for subsequent year funding. Match would be based upon the total cost of the project . The funds for the first year grant period will be used to provide additional staffing and equipment . CCR program funding is not to be used to subsidize existing and mandated law enforcement services or previously funded OCJP activities. During the first year of the grant program, the Department is proposing to develop a program solely dedicated to the suppression, enforcement and educational deterrence of domestic violence. The target group and target area for this grant will be Hispanic, primarily non-English speaking, citizens of the "First Council Ward. " The officer assigned to implement the grant program will be working with bi-lingual volunteers from the community and representatives local assault prevention agencies . Educational programs will be conducted in both Spanish and English. A strong awareness campaign will be conducted. Handouts and flyers written in Spanish will be developed and distributed to provide educational information and referrals related to domestic violence. Patrol Officers will take an active part in distributing these materials . Computer equipment will be purchased to assist the grant program in maintaining related statistics, lists of classes and programs, budget tracking and monitoring documentation of other grant requirements. 75-0264 CITY OF SAN BERNV IDINO - REQUEST Fr I COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT CCR Grant Page 2 The Departments goal is to succeed in breaking the cycle of violence and to contribute to social change through community awareness, education, intervention and prevention programs . Once the grant is completed, this program can easily be broadened to include all segments of our community. 75-0264
