CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
A request was received from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians to vacate that
portion of Victoria Avenue lying North of Piedmont Drive. All but one piece of
property adjoining Victoria Avenue North of Piedmont Drive is owned by the San
Manuel Band of Mission Indians.
The San Manuel Indians have contacted the private property owner, David Calleros,
and have his concurrence regarding the proposed vacation. He will be granted
rights of ingress and egress to his property.
The City will retain its rights of ingress and egress for refuse, emergency
services, etc. This portion of Victoria Avenue is approximately 826 feet in
length.
The San Manuel Band Of Mission Indians is federalizing all their property in this
area and would like to have the public's use of that portion of Victoria Avenue
limited.
They are requesting the street vacation for security reasons. Being able to
fence off or gate Victoria Avenue would make it much easier for the San Manuel
Band of Mission Indians to control access to reservation lands. As the East one-
half of Victoria Avenue was never dedicated for public use, this request is
asking that the West one-half be vacated.
The Petitioner has paid the first one-half ($500) of the $1,000 Street Vacation
Processing Fee.
We recommend approval of the Authorization to Proceed with the vacation of
Victoria Avenue, North of Piedmont Drive.
