STAFF REPORT
The Public Services Department 1995/1996 budget provides for the replacement of three (3) each
propane-powered 5 (five) yard dump trucks. The alternative fuel, propane, is requested in order to
assist the City in meeting the 1998 E.P.A. Federal Mandate. The three (3) trucks that are being
replaced are equipment numbers 421 and 432, both 1980 Fords, and 435, a 1978 International. The
average mileage for the three (3) trucks is 125,782 miles. The trucks have exceeded their useful life
and are becoming extremely expensive to maintain.
Notices inviting bids for three (3) 1996 five (5) yard dump trucks, Bid No. 96-20, were sent to 17
vendors; four (4) sealed bids were received and were opened on January 24, 1996.

Fuller Ford Chula Vista, CA $123,407.15
Fairview Ford San Bernardino, CA $129,138.37
Victor Buick/G.M.C. Corona, CA $130.221.26
The low bidder, Carmenita Truck Center, Santa Fe Springs, CA met or exceeded all the items called
for in the specifications.
It is recommended that the Common Council authorize the purchasing agent to issue a purchase order
in the amount of$121,894.34 to Carmenita Truck Center to purchase three (3) each propane-powered
1996 Ford F-700, 5 (five) yard dump trucks.
