CITY OF SAN BERK ' RDINO - REQUEST 11R COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
On 11-15-93 , the Mayor and Common Council authorized the Chief of
Police to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the San
Bernardino City Unified School District to participate in the joint
sponsorship of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Program
and provide four full-time police officers to teach the DARE
Program. Three DARE officers were funded by the City' s General
Fund under Account #001-223 , Community Programs . Fifty percent of
the fourth DARE officer was funded by a San Bernardino City Unified
School District grant with the remaining 50% paid for by the City' s
General Fund.
The Police Department has received a proposed MOU to continue the
joint sponsorship of the DARE Program for the period of July 1,
1995 through June 30, 1996 . As modified, the Police Department
would provide three full-time police officers to teach the DARE
Program as funding for the fourth position has been eliminated from
the Police Department' s budget . Adoption of the proposed
resolution will authorize Acting Police Chief Wayne Harp to sign
the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of the City and the
Police Department .
