Description) Minor Traffic Operation Improvements - Various Locations Finance: Council Notes: 75-0262 Agenda Item No. 3 CITY OF SAN BERNAARD►INO - REQUEST Ff►R COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT The intersection of the Kendall Drive Frontage Road and Little Mountain Drive has been a source of concern for many years . Signs have been posted to prohibit left turns from Little Mountain Drive, but many motorists still make this move. A meeting with the adjoining businesses was convened by Councilman Devlin on 7-28-94 . It was recommended by the City Traffic Engineer that the frontage road intersection with Little 'Mountain Drive be closed, in order to alleviate concerns over traffic problems . However, those present were not in agreement. The representatives did agree to the construction of a curbed island in Little Mountain Drive to preclude left turns into the frontage road, provided that two driveway approaches were in- stalled along Kendall Drive. A temporary median will be installed, after the driveway approaches are available for use, in order to evaluate the impact on the businesses . If no adverse impacts are noted, a permanent curbed island will be installed. Plans have been prepared for the installation of these two driveway approaches , and completing the paving in the alley. The paving - for the alley is being completed, since more vehicles will be making left turns into the alley, due to the median in Little Mountain Drive. Below is an estimate of the total project cost: Construction Contract $ 20 , 517 Contingencies (10%) ± 1 , 983 TOTAL ESTIMATED PROJECT COST $ 22 , 500 All, costs incurred for this project will be charged to Account No. 250-670-57477 . We recommend that the plans be approved and authorization granted to advertise for bids . URGENCY CLAUSE: Installation of these driveway approaches will allow the median to be provided in Little Mountain Drive to preclude left turns into the frontage road. These improvements will reduce complaints and the City' s exposure to liability. 8-29-94 75-0264 AAW/N h V {J r /r,. t0 `i dier f Ys r X S"u j; LIE j sl MAIN - lygr - srr xts !0 ANM `nd tv C 9l QV3 M s • d1S 9Y dd '9 t 0NJ9N VIS 11 3A I X10 N/v.LnOW 3711/7 J .
