CITY OF SAN BERN, ADINO - REQUEST COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
BUCKBOARD PARR - NAME CHANGE
TO "LITTLEFIELD-SHULTIS PARK."
Buckboard Park, a 20 acre neighborhood park site located on
Buckboard Road at Kendall Drive has been called by this
unofficial name since the property was first purchased and
dedicated for park purposes. The park was called "Buckboard"
simply because of its location on Buckboard Road.
At the May 20, 1993 meeting of the Park and Recreation
Commission, Chairperson Schuiling read a letter from Fifth
Ward Councilman Tom Minor requesting that Buckboard Park be
renamed "Littlefield-Shultis Memorial Park" in memory of
former Police Officers, Tim Littlefield and Bob Shultis who
were killed in the line of duty. The request was accompanied
by a petition signed by 101 citizens in support of naming this
park in memory of these two police officers who made the
supreme sacrifice as they served to make the City of San
Bernardino a safer and better place to live.
After discussion, the Commission voted to support this request
and to recommend to the Mayor and Common Council that the park
be named "Littlefield-Shultis Memorial Park. " This motion is
recorded in the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Park and
Recreation Commission of May 20th, 1993, a copy of which is
attached hereto.
Department staff fully supports this name change and
recommends that the request be approved.
