CITY OF SAN BERNO RDINO - REQUEST FI%R COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
It has become quite evident that we are living in an era of
increasing violence. We see it in the news and all around us --
from Bosnia to Brooklyn, from Sarajevo to San Bernardino violence
is pandemic in the world. It is felt that part of the reason for
this violence is the variety and ready accessibility of various
types of weaponry. Brass knuckles, switchblade knives and
"Saturday night specials" have yielded to Uzi (s) , AR 15s, AK 47s
and sawed-off shotguns.
Those buildings considered heretofore to be unwritten sanctuaries,
such as the Court House, government facilities, hospitals and major
buildings do not seem to be immune any more. There are various
individuals and groups whether organized terrorists with a
political agenda or deranged individuals who commit these acts of
violence. It is happening all around us.
There is a need for us to think in terms of enhanced security for
various City facilities, including City Hall . It is requested that
the Chief of Police investigate this situation and provide the
Mayor and Council with a report detailing what steps can be taken
to enhance the security of City facilities in a prophylactic or
preventive manner to avoid incidents from happening.
