Lorraine Velarde, Mayor' s Executive Assistant FROM: Margie Vance, Senior Secretary SUBJECT: COUNCIL MEETING - MONDAY, JULY 19, 1993 DATE: July 16, 1993 COPIES: City Clerk' s Office; Council ' s Office EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION AWARDS Management-Confidential Employee Category a) SANDRA MEDINA, ADMINISTRATIVE OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR, IN THE CITY CLERK'S OFFICE, performed her duties with outstanding professionalism during the primary and general election held in March and May of this year. Ms. Medina assumed the role of overseeing the processing of requests for absentee ballots. No one on the City Clerk' s staff had previously had total responsibility for this important task during elections. Throughout the two elections, Mrs. Medina remained calm and in control, carrying out her duties in a very efficient manner. Safety Employee Category b) SERGEANT, DICK RICE, POLICE DEPARTMENT, was assigned to investigate and evaluate the possibility of having the patrol division move to a new style of policing. This new style is commonly known as "Problem Oriented Policing" , and is an evolution of the department' s current program of community oriented policing. This new program involves greater cooperation and communication between patrol officers and the citizens of the City of San Bernardino. Sergeant Rice has successfully taken upon himself the responsibility of teaching other police patrol personnel this new concept of policing. General Employee Category C) ANTHONY GREEN, WATER RECLAMATION MAINTENANCE TRAINEE, WATER DEPARTMENT, "If you want the job done, call Anthony" . This is the opinion held by all the section leaders and supervisors at the Water Reclamation Facility. Mr. Green has displayed an outstanding ability to innovate, plan and accomplish any task assigned him. He is a highly proficient landscape designer, gardener, heavy equipment operator, painter and last, but not least, a mechanic. His determination, dedication and abilities are without equal.
