APPROVAL TO INSTALL VIEWSITE LANDMARK STAFF REPORT
MONUMENT AT WILDWOOD PARK BY "FRIENDS
OF THE ARROWHEAD".
On November 19, 1987, Mr. Willard Monninger, representing "Friends of the
Arrowhead" presented to the Park and Recreation Commission a plan for erecting
a monument and viewsite at the north end of Wildwood Park. This site is for
travelers to pull off and view the arrowhead and be able to read information
about the arrowhead that would be depicted on the monument.
Department staff supported the monument site. The proposed site is an extended
area above the parking lot at the north end of the park which is not presently
landscaped and the monument would ultimately help to beautify the area. The
"Friends of the Arrowhead" will provide the funding for design, construction and
installation and maintenance of the monument. The work will be accomplished in
accordance with department specifications and will be supervised by the
Superintendent of Parks.
The Commission voted that the Park and Recreation Commission recommend approval
of the proposal and to recommend to the Mayor and Common Council that a viewsite
and monument for the Arrowhead be placed at the north end of Wildwood Park
subject to meeting any requirements imposed by the Mayor and Common Council
and City Planning Commission and Department.
A preliminary check with the Planning Department indicates that there does
not appear to be any restriction or special requirement which would be imposed in
connection with the viewsite and monument installation. A copy of the architect' s
sketch of the monument is attached for your information.
Upon approval of this project, Cal Trans will be contacted to have the proper
signs installed at the correct intervals and positions along Waterman Avenue.
This monument will enhance the area and will provide interesting information
for local citizens and travelers through our area. It is recommended that the
viewsite and monument installation at Wildwood Park be approved.
