AUTHORIZATION TO APPLY FOR ADRDA/ACTION STAFF REPORT
RESPITE CARE PROJECT GRANT IN -THE AMOUNT
OF $45,130 TO BE ADMINISTERED THROUGH
THE CITY SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM
The City has been invited to apply for funding for a partnership program
between the publically funded Senior Companion Program (SCP) (ACTION) and
the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association (ADRDA) , a private
national voluntary health organization.
The SCP, where Senior Companion are trained as volunteers to serve in
respite care, is ideally suited as a source of volunteer personnel who may
receive additional training or recruit new volunteers who will be trained
to provide respite service to caregivers who attend the needs of family
members with Alzheimer's or a related disorder.
This ADRDA/ACTION Repite Care Project is a public/private partnership
activity and will provide funding for five (5) sub-grants over a 24 month
period. After the 24 month trial period, the strengths of the project will
be assessed, thus determining any future funding, and continuation of the
program.
The Department staff is pleased to be chosen to apply for this grant and
will be able to carry out the requirements of the grant project within the
current Senior Companion Program administration guideline at no cost to the
City. The project will provide a much needed program to assist local families
who are now providing care for family members with Alzheimer's or related
disorders. Therefore, it is recommended that this request for authorization
to apply for funding be approved.
