Justification for the Request
The position will become vacant upon the departure of Robert Cravens, Jr., Code Enforcement
Officer II, on May 15th. With the recent reduction in force, this position is critical to the overall
effectiveness of the Code Enforcement Division. Contact was made previously with all of the
officers on the reinstatement list and no one accepted the position. There would be significant
impacts to residents' quality of life if the position is not filled.

Robert Evans III will fill the currently vacant position of Battalion Chief. This vacancy w'
resulted in the promotion of Thomas Hannemann to Deputy Fire Chief. In order to
ensure that the shift supervision and emergency operations are adequately staffed, it is E
critical that this position be filled.
a
Mr. Evans began his career with San Bernardino City Fire in October 2000 as a
Firefighter. He promoted to Fire Engineer in August 2005 and then to Fire Captain in
December 2010. Mr. Evans is the top candidate for this position having successfully
completed a competive testing process, involving a written, oral and tactical exercise. Mr.
Evans is well qualified to fill this position and will continue to be a valuable asset to Fire
Operations and the Executive Staff.

Justification/Reason for Request
Leslie Aguirre will fill the currently vacant position of Fire Dispatch Supervisor. This a
vacancy resulted in the resignation of Fire Dispatch Supervisor Kari Prinz, effective d
05/24/2015. In order to ensure that shift supervision and emergency communictions
operations are adequately staffed,it is critical that this position be filled.

Ms. Aguirre began employment with San Bernardino City Fire as a Dispatcher I — Part
Time on 03/20/2001. She promoted to a Dispatcher II—Part Time 05/20/2003, then to a
Dispatcher 1I on 12/01/2003.
We request Ms. Aguirre be granted a starting salary at Step 6 as this would equate to a
5% pay increase over her current salary where she is currently at the top step and has
been for some time.

screening process and oral interview. Ms. Aguirre is well qualified to fill this position
and in doing so will continue to be a valuable asset to this department.

The position of Criminal Investigation Officer has eleven authorized positions; four positions are a
filled, which leaves seven vacancies. Ms. Tennison will fill one of the positions, leaving six
vacancies. Ms. Tennison was selected after a testing process that identified her as suitable to fill
this position.

The Engineering Division needs the services of a competent and highly motivated
individual to assist the City Engineer in establishing policy, maintaining schedules
and coordinating timely correspondence responses to a number of outside agencies a
including Sanbag, Caltrans, City of Highland, County of San Bernardino, IVDA and
the California State University at San Bernardino.
Ms. Velci has repeatedly been given the highest scores on both her interviews with
the Division Manager and support staff.
This is a fully funded position that is included in the adopted FY 2014-2015 City
Budget.
