the Animal Control Division to Waive Adoption Fees for Adoptions of All Animals on
June 13, 2015, June 20, 2015 and June 27, 2015. (#3888)

Financial Impact:
The estimated cost to the City of the waiver of adoption fees is $2,500.00.
Motion: Adopt the Resolution.
Background:
The Animal Shelter is currently at capacity on the number of animals we have space for.
We are requesting authorization to waive adoption fees to enable us to clear out the
animals through adoption versus having to euthanize the animals for space.
Spay/neuter, Rabies, and licensing costs would remain. The only thing waived is the
actual adoption fee which is $55.00 per animal.

3 OF SAN BERNARDINO AUTHORIZING THE ANIMAL CONTROL DIVISION TO
4 WAIVE ADOPTION FEES FOR ADOPTIONS OF ALL ANIMALS ON JUNE 13, 2015,
JUNE 20, 2015 AND JUNE 27, 2015.

6 WHEREAS,the City of San Bernardino's animal shelter is currently at or near full

8 WHEREAS, employees of the City of San Bernardino's animal shelter have determined 0

9 that euthanasia of a significant amount of animals will be necessary if the shelter is unable to Q

10 adopt out a significant number of animals by the end of June 2015; and

11 WHEREAS, it is the policy of the State of California that no adoptable animal should -

12 be euthanized if it can be adopted into a suitable home; and

13 WHEREAS, the only current viable alternative to euthanasia of animals that have been �'

co
14 held for the mandatory time periods, as required by state law, is to provide a significant `°
15 incentive for residents of the City of San Bernardino and the surrounding communities to adopt 0
16 animals from the City shelter; and
17 WHEREAS,waiver of adoption fees for all animal adoptions from the City of San
18 Bernardino on June 13, 2015, June 20, 2015 and June 27, 2015 will create a significant

19 incentive for residents of the City of San Bernardino and the surrounding communities to adopt

20 animals from the City shelter; and o

21 WHEREAS, a significant number of animals may be adopted to residents of the City of E
22 San Bernardino and the surrounding communities, thereby relieving the necessity for euthanasia Q
