RESOLUTION NO. 2007- ORIGINAL
CALIFORNIA CHILDREN'S OUTDOOR BILL OF RIGHTS
On Tuesday June 26, 2007, on motion of Supervisor duly seconded by
Supervisor and carried, the following resolution is adopted by the Board of
Supervisors of San Bernardino County, State of California.
WHEREAS, the California Roundtable on Recreation, Parks and Tourism has adopted the
California Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights, for Children; and
WHEREAS, children who recreate in the outdoors lead healthier lives; and
WHEREAS, studies document that children today are less active; and
WHEREAS, outdoor recreation is a great way for children to become active and utilize time
positively; and
WHEREAS, children who discover the past are better-rounded and prepared citizens; and
WHEREAS, children who play in a safe place are mentally and physically healthier; and
WHEREAS, children who camp under the stars receive enhanced self-concepts and social
skills; and
WHEREAS, children who explore nature have less stress and higher grade point averages;
and
WHEREAS, children who swim and play in the surf, lakes, streams, ponds and swimming
pools are more physically fit; and
WHEREAS, children who play on a team gain social skills and sportsmanship; and
WHEREAS, children who walk, bike and hike on trails escape the pressures of daily life and
strengthen family relationships; and
WHEREAS, children who catch a fish learn to be stewards of nature; and
WHEREAS, children who celebrate their heritage have a strong sense of identity and
belonging; and
WHEREAS, thousands of children benefit from the wide range of services, facilities and
programs provided by San Bernardino County Regional Parks.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San
Bernardino, State of California, do hereby support the "California Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights"
and encourage all children to enjoy and recognize the social, physical, mental, environmental and
community benefits derived from our County Regional Parks, and encourage every child to
experience each of the activities listed within the California Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights by the
completion of their fourteenth year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be noted in the minutes of this Board.
