SAINTRA THAI
STUDENT OF THE MONTH
Senior — Arroyo Valley High School
Saintra was born and raised in San Bernardino. She attended Warm Springs
Elementary School, Curtis Middle School and is now a senior at Arroyo Valley High
School. She has a weighted grade point average (GPA) of 4.5.
Saintra's mother, Simone, immigrated to the United States from Vietnam in the
1990s, and works as manicurist. Her brother, Andrew, is currently attending Boston
University's Graduate School of Education. He is also an education director for a
nonprofit that teaches students about environmental sustainability. She has two dogs, a
Chihuahua named Nina and a terrier named Lilo.
Saintra has been a member of the track and field team since freshman year. She
is in the International Baccalaureate program at her school. She is involved in the 10
Spanish Club, IB Club, Calculus Club and Key Club at her school. Saintra was
selected by her school to serve on the committee and give input for the appointment of
a new principal. Saintra is very active in her church, Our Lady of Hope Parish, where
she is a teacher's aide for the confirmation class and is also on the fundraising and
philanthropic team. 10
Even though Saintra's favorite class is Spanish, she plans to get her degree in
civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. She was fortunate
enough to be invited to and attend several college summer institutions for the past two
summers. She spent two months at Harvard University's Secondary Summer School
Program and last summer, she attended a month-long architectural program at MIT
followed by Princeton University's Summer Journalism Program.
Saintra wants all students to know that they should never doubt themselves.
Each and every one of them has an opportunity and it's up to them to take advantage
of it.

I just met Saintra, your best so far. I can't imagine anyone topping her. So humble, sweet and intelligent. I will be
following her!
Now do you see what I meant about the meaning of her e-mail? Her mother had to work, so her father brought her. We
did have our meeting She didn't mention her father anywhere in her bio so I didn't ask

Thank you Dr. Margaret Hill, it was a pleasure meeting you. If it's not too much trouble, I made a couple of edits.
Unfortunately, my mother has work and will be unable to make it to the pre-meeting.
