the Municipal Code to Prohibit Vehicles Exceeding a Maximum Gross Weight Limit of
Ten Thousand Pounds Upon the Following Road Segments: Belleview Street Between
"K" Street and "I" Street; Congress Street Between "K" Street and "I" Street; "J" Street
Between Rialto Avenue and the End of "J" Street Approximately One Thousand Feet
South of Congress Street; and "I" Street Between Congress Street and the End of "I"
Street Approximately Three Hundred Feet North of Belleview Street. (FINAL

None.
Background:
"I" Street, south of Rialto Avenue, will be closed to traffic as part of the Downtown
Passenger Rail Project being constructed by SANBAG. The closure will be completed
with temporary traffic control but will eventually become permanent.
Residents of the neighborhood generally located south of Rialto Avenue and between
"K" Street and "I" Street have expressed concerns about truck traffic on the subject
residential streets. Traffic Engineering has evaluated the situation and is
recommending that trucks weighing over five tons be prohibited from using Belleview
Street between "K" Street and "I" Street; Congress Street between "K" Street and "I"
Street; "J" Street south of Rialto Avenue; and "I" Street north of Congress Street.
There is an industrial use on "I" Street north of Congress Street within the area of the
proposed restriction that requires trucks. This use will be exempt from the proposed
restriction on "I" Street only, for the purposes of ingress/egress.
On an interim basis, and as part of the construction traffic control and detours, the
SANBAG contractor has installed "Commercial Vehicles Over 5 Tons Prohibited" signs
along this area. These signs will also be appropriate to use on a permanent basis. As

a result, no direct cost by the City will be incurred as a result of this action.
Staff recommends that the attached Ordinance be adopted prohibiting trucks from
traveling upon the following streets: Belleview Street between "K" Street and "I" Street;
Congress Street between "K" Street and "I" Street; "J" Street between Rialto Avenue
and the end of "J" Street approximately one-thousand (1,000) feet south of Congress
Street; and "I" Street between Congress Street and the end of "I" Street approximately
three-hundred (300) feet north of Belleview Street .
