Establishing Salaries for Fire Department Ranges P-4 (Battalion Chief), P-6 (Deputy
Fire Chief), and P-7 (Fire Chief) Effective August 1, 2014. (#3499)

Financial Impact:
The overall Charter 186 financial impact for the Fire Management group will result in an
increase of $37,474.00 to the General Fund.
Motion: Adopt the Resolution.
Synopsis of Previous Council Action:
On December 16, 2013, the Mayor and Common Council approved the establishment of
salaries for Fire Department Ranges P-5 (Battalion Chief), P-6 (Deputy Fire Chief), and
P-7 (Fire Chief), effective August 1, 2013.
Background:
Section 186 of the City Charter establishes a formula for setting salaries for local safety
members, effective August 1 of each year. An agreement was reached with the Fire
Management Unit for the 10 cities to be used for this year's calculations. The salaries of
those cities have been averaged to determine the salaries for 2014 Fire Management
classifications.
The 10 cities selected include:
Antioch Garden Grove
Burbank Orange
Concord Roseville
Corona San Buenaventura
Fullerton West Covina
2014 MONTHLY SALARY RANGES
Effective August 1, 2014, the new monthly salaries are as follows:

Adding fringe benefits and other salary driven costs (CaIPERS, Unemployment,
Medicare), which rise with salary increases, the overall Charter 186 financial impact for
the Police Management group will result in an increase of $37,474.00 to the General
Fund.
