Darling Santiago is currently a sixth grade student at
Urbita Elementary School. She has attended Urbita 16
since the second grade and has excelled at each 10
grade level. Darling is not only an exemplary student 10
academically, but she is also a leader in 16
exemplifying the Positive Behavior Support motto;
Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Safe. Darling
hopes to be a role model for her little brother. She's
hoping he will also have the same leadership
qualities. Darling has high expectations for herself
and will be striving to become a pediatrician or a
family physician in the future.

JALEN CLEVELAND
Student of the Month
Middle College High School — Senior
Jalen Cleveland was born in San Bernardino and received his education in this
district. He attended Emmerton and Kendall_ elementary schools, Shandin Hills Middle
School, Cajon High School for his ninth grade year and since tenth grade, has been a
student at Middle College High School. He is also a student at San Bernardino Valley
College and currently taking three classes: Anthropology, Spanish and Theater. Jalen
will graduate May 2015, with a GPA (Grade Point Average) of 3.72.
Jalen's immediate family members are his father, mother, sister and brother. His
father, Jermeco, works for Wells Fargo Bank and his mother, Tara, works as a Fiscal
Analyst for San Bernardino County. His sister, Naiyana, is a junior at Cajon High School
and his brother, Hassan, is an 8'' grade student at Shandin Hills Middle School.
Jalen's school activities include the following: ASB (Associated Student Body)
President and co-founder of the first Debate Club on campus, organizer of the Grand
Tournament (2013/14 soccer and volleyball; 2014/15 football and basketball), Peer
Leader, Journalism and was part of the San Bernardino City Unified School District's 16
School Wide Focus Group. He is also a certified AVID tutor. His community activities
include the work he does at his church, Circle of the Star, Church of Theola, where he
teaches a youth group. In the past, he was a little league volunteer.
Jalen enjoys his government classes as he wants to know the rights we have as
citizens of the city, county, state and country. His message to students is, "When things
look bleak, keep trying. Giving up is never the answer".
Jalen plans to attend either California State University, East Bay or Bakersfield or
the University of California, Santa Cruz. His career plans are in the field of business
marketing.
