SYNOPSIS OF PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: On July 10, 2014, the Personnel Committee Chairman continued this item to the next meeting, July 24, 2014. On July 24, 2014, the Personnel Committee Chairman recommended that this item be forwarded to Mayor and Common Council for adoption. BACKGROUND/ANALYSIS The Public Works Department is in need of inter-departmental support to fully satisfy the regulatory compliance and operational requirements established by various governing agencies. As part of the FY 2014/15 adopted budget, the Public Works Department dedicated funding for this position. At the time the budget was adopted,the actual title of the position was not yet confirmed and was designated as ?Safety Officer.?After a thorough assessment of the department?s needs and a classification and compensation study, the position was titled Regulatory Compliance Analyst. On July 10, 2014, the San Bernardino Confidential/Management Association was advised of establishing the new position; to date, no opposition has been received. The Public Works Department is now requesting that the position be established so that it can proceed with recruitment. As experience is gained, duties are performed a with a significant degree of independence under general supervision. Incumbents are expected to carry out their responsibilities with initiative and creativity, exercising sound professional judgment and problem-solving skills.
