MELISSA B TO
Student of the Month
San Bernardino High School — Senior
September 15, 2014
Melissa Brito is a senior at San Bernardino High School. She was born in San
Bernardino and began her school career at Lincoln Elementary School. She also attended
Arrowhead Elementary School, then Golden Valley Middle School. She is now a student
who has a GPA (Grade Point Average) of 4.59 and will graduate in May 2015.
Melissa's high school schedule includes four AP (Advanced Placement) classes
and she is also enrolled in a Chemistry class at California State University, San
Bernardino. She's unsure of which college/university she will attend but knows that she
will major in business and hospitality.
Melissa feels honored to have a very supportive family. Her father, Miguel, is a
trucker and her mother, Rosa, works at Bakers. Her brother, Miguel, Jr., who is also a
San Bernardino High School graduate, attended San Bernardino Valley College but is
now looking at other career opportunities. She has one pet, a Chihuahua named Jake.
Melissa had great concerns when she was assigned to San Bernardino High
School because most of her friends went to another school in the district; however, she
has had great years there because the teachers genuinely care about the students. Melissa
states that the positive friendships she has in San Bernardino have contributed to her
excellent years.
Melissa is the president of the Academic Decathlon Team, is a member of the
National Honors Society and the Key Club. When not studying or participating in her
clubs, and going to Cal State, Melissa volunteers at school by recruiting students to be a
part of the AVID program and by setting up for sports events, especially track.
Melissa's message to her fellow students is to surround yourself with positive
influences.
