The San Bernardino City Unified School District and the San Bernardino Police Department entered into agreement in 1990 to provide an additional DARE Officer. The Cost r of the officer is shared equally by the School District and the City of San Bernardino. The San Bernardino Police Department has allocated the monies in the 93/94 Budget. h The amount funded is not to exceed $ 31 ,200 of the officer' s pay. This Amount is for the period from July 1 , 1993 through June 30, 1994. j Project DARE is a joint project of the San Bernardino Police Deapartment and the San Bernardino Unified School District to prevent drug abuse in children and youth. The emphasis of project DARE is to help students recognize and resist the many pressures that influence them to experiment with alcohol and drugs. In addition, the project focuses on feelings related to self-esteem, interpersonal and communication skills, decision making, and alternatives to drug abuse behavior. r 75-0264 i I 1 I 2 RESOLUTION NO. 3 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO RATIFYING A 4 MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE SAN BERNARDINO CITY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT RELATING TO THE REIMBURSEMENT OF FUNDS 5 FOR A DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION (D.A.R.E. ) PROGRAM OFFICER PROVIDED BY THE SAN BERNARDINO POLICE DEPARTMENT. 6 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE 7 CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: 8 SECTION 1. WHEREAS, the San Bernardino City Unified 9 School District, (hereinafter "District") , has received 10 funding from a Tobacco Use Prevention Education Grant, 11 (hereinafter "TUPE") , for the City to provide an additional 12 Drug Abuse Resistance Education (hereinafter "D.A.R.E. ") 13 officer to the District; now, 14 SECTION 2. PENMAN City At orney 25 by: 26 27 28 2 0 _ ORIGINAL MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING Between SAN BERNARDINO CITY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT And SAN BERNARDINO CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT Concerning an ADDITIONAL DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION (DARE) OFFICER Project DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is a substance use prevention education program designed to equip children with skills for making decisions, managing stress, and withstanding negative peer pressures to use tobacco, drugs, and alcohol. The San Bernardino City Unified School District (District) and the San Bernardino City Police Department (SBPD) have committed to jointly sponsoring this program, and agree as follows: The District hereby contracts with SBPD to provide an additional DARE Officer. One-half of the DARE Officer's monthly salary and benefits shall be funded by the District from Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) funds. SBPD may invoice the District on a quarterly basis. This Memorandum of Understanding is contingent upon continued receipt of sufficient TUPE grant funding. SBPD shall arrange for DARE Officer Training offered by the Los Angeles City Unified School District. DARE services delivery dates will be mutually agreed upon by the District and SBPD. All schools within the District boundaries are to be served. This Memorandum of Understanding shall be for a period beginning July 1. 1993, through June 30, 1994. It may be renewed, modified or terminated by mutual written consent of the parties involved.
