Description) Drainage Im ov m - Evans St. & "I" St. Finance: Council Notes: 75-0262 Agenda Item No. — CITY OF SAN BERN"ADINO - REQUEST F R COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT Storm water flowing along the west side of the Santa Fe Railway track is discharged into the intersection of Evans Street and "I" Street, through a curb opening. The storm water then drains to the west side of "I" Street, since the pavement is sloped in that direction. The street section is not adequate to handle the volume of storm water, which results in water flowing over the curb and on to the adjoining parcel. This situation has resulted in complaints from the owner of this single family residence. A field review revealed two options to alleviate this situation. One is to extend the 18-inch storm drain at 13th Street to Evans Street. The preliminary estimate of cost for this option is $85 ,000. A second option would be to remove and reconstruct the curb and gutter along the east side of "I" Street, and raise the pavement of centerline, to keep the storm water on the east side of the street. Under this option, the storm water will still flow in "I" Street, but the parcel on the southwest corner would be protected. The preliminary estimate of cost for this option is $15, 000. We recommend that the second option be selected, since it is less expensive and will address the problem experienced by the resident on the southwest corner. An amount of $50, 000 has been allocated, under Account No. 248-368-57888, to finance the costs for installation of drainage improvements to the Chestnut Avenue Storm Drain. The preliminary estimate of cost is less than $35, 000 , which means that $15 , 000 could be transferred without delaying this project. Therefore, we recommend that $15,000 be transferred to finance the cost for the drainage improvements at Evans Street and "I" Street. 8-17-93 75-0264
