CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
A complaint was received after the recent rainstorms from
Ms . Marie Roden, of 4215 Pershing Avenue.
The basis of this complaint is that the storm water in
Pershing Avenue tops the curbs in even moderate rainstorms.
Since many of the homes along this section of Pershing Avenue are
built below the street grade, this results in the front yards
being inundated.
Our Storm Drain Master Plan shows a large (60"- 84")
storm drain in Mt. View Avenue, and Pershing Avenue, between 37th
Street and 48th Street. The cost for installing this drain, in
accordance with our Master Plan, will be very expensive, and the
entire length is not included in our five-year Capital Improve-
ment Program.
An interim solution could be to install two (2) catch
basins in Pershing Avenue, just north of 48th Street, with a
lateral connecting to the 42-inch storm drain in Electric Avenue.
The preliminary estimate of cost for this project is $35 ,000 .
We recommend that the expenditure of $35 , 000 , from the
undesignated balance in the Storm Drain Construction Fund, be
approved.
