Synopsis of Previous Council action:
June, 1997 - Allocation of $80 , 000 , in 1997/98 Gas Tax Fund Budget,
approved.
Recommended motion:
That the plans for upgrading traffic signals on Fifth Street, at
"D" Street and Mt. View Avenue, and on Sixth Street at "F" Street,
in accordance with Plan No. 9721 , be approved; and the Director of
Public Works/City Engineer be authorized to advertise for bids.

CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
Plans for the upgrade of traffic signals on Fifth Street,
at "D" Street and Mt. View Avenue, and on Sixth Street at "F"
Street, have been completed, and the project is ready to be
advertised for bids. The project consists, in general, of in-
stalling pedestrian signals and push buttons, with auditory
indications, and some additional traffic signal heads.
Below is an estimate of the total project cost:
Construction Contract $ 58 , 000
Engineering & Inspection (W.O. #7099) 7 ,000
Sub-Total $ 65 , 000
Contingencies (150) ± 10 , 000
TOTAL ESTIMATED PROJECT COST $ 75 , 000
The upgrade of traffic signals at Fifth Street and
Arrowhead Avenue will be included in the bid documents as an
Additive Alternate. After the bids are opened, a decision can be
made on incorporating the Additive Alternate in the contract
award.
All costs incurred for this project will be charged to
the $80 ,000 allocated in the 1997/98 Gas Tax Budget, under
Account No. 126-369-5504-7099 .
We recommend that the plans be approved and authorization
granted to advertise for bids .
