Residents of this area raised concerns of speeding vehicles, and felt that a 4-way stop would slow vehicles down. Although the intersection did not meet warrants for a 4- way stop, the section of Macy Street between Mill Street and Rialto Avenue was evaluated. The study conducted by the Traffic Engineering Section and presented to the Traffic Safety Committee at their December 9 , 1992, meeting found the following: Critical speed (85th percentile) is 42 miles per hour. ° Area between Walnut Street and Chatka Lane meets criteria for a prima facie 25 mile per hour speed limit. ° Stop signs are in place on the west bound approaches to Macy Street' s intersections with Walnut Street and Chatka Lane. The signs were installed when the streets were recently built, however, these were not formally approved by the Mayor and Council. Based on this information, the Traffic Safety Committee recommended the following: ° Install 25 mile per hour speed limit signs. These signs are not necessary in order to enforce the 25 m.p.h. speed limit, however, in view of the higher than normal critical speed, the Committee felt it necessary to remind motorists of the speed limit. ° Declare Macy Street a through highway, thereby allowing the installation of stop signs on the side street approaches. The 25 mile per hour speed limit signs have already been installed as this action does not require Council action. Staff recommends that the attached resolution be adopted. 12-21-92 ,0264 RIALTO AV ATKA LN F HH N NORTH NO ,t/o Sc.4/E WALNUT ST - PROPOSED >- THRU HIGHWAY Q CHESTNUT ST T MILL ST 1 RESOLUTION NO. 2 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 655 ENTITLED, IN PART, "A RESOLUTION. . 3 DESIGNATING CERTAIN STREETS OR PORTIONS THEREOF AS THROUGH HIGHWAYS. . ; " AND PROVIDING THAT MACY STREET IS A THROUGH 4 HIGHWAY FROM RIALTO AVENUE TO MILL STREET.
