Public Works DepartmentEngineering
The Engineering Division is responsible for the management, planning, design and construction of capital infrastructure projects, including streets, sewers, storm drains, traffic signals,
and traffic controls. Additionally the division is responsible for surveying, testing, and inspecting improvements within the public right-of-way. The Engineering Division develops,
manages and maintains the City's annual 5-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The Division is comprised of four sections, including Real Property, Capital Projects, Right-of-Way
Permits, and Traffic Engineering. The Real Property Section is responsible for processing property sales and acquisitions; processing and maintaining all right-of-way & easement records,
annexations and various assessment districts. The Capital Projects Section is responsible for delivery of new infrastructure projects in accordance with the City’s 5-Year CIP. The Traffic
Engineering Section is responsible for the design and placement of traffic signals, traffic signs and pavement makings. The Permits Section is responsible for issuance of encroachment
permits and inspection for work within the public right-of-way by utilities, other agencies, and private parties.

Public Works DepartmentFleet Management
The Fleet Management Division maintains the City's police vehicles, refuse trucks, and other City-owned vehicles. It also operates and maintains the diesel, unleaded gasoline, compressed
natural gas (CNG), and liquid natural gas (LNG) fueling station. The CNG station is available to other government agencies and the public.

Public Works DepartmentIntegrated Waste Management
The IWM Division provides collection services to residential and commercial customers for refuse, recyclable, and green waste. The IWM also works to reduce solid waste disposal to landfills
through source reduction, re-use, and recycling programs. The Environmental Section coordinates waste reduction, pollution prevention, and sustainable community initiatives and programming
for San Bernardino government facilities, schools, businesses, and residents within the City.

Public Works DepartmentOperations and Maintenance
The Operation and Maintenance Division is the most diverse division in the Department. There are five sections that remove graffiti, maintain approximately 600 miles of streets, 1100
miles of sidewalks, curbs, gutters, street signs, traffic signals, street lights, storm drains and 500 miles of sewer main lines. The Division also includes Building Maintenance which
provides custodial services and is responsible for preventative maintenance.
