Backp_round: On September 19, 2012, Governor Brown signed Senate Bill(SB) 1186 into law that adds $1 to business license fees and similar instruments. These fees will be used to increase the number of Certified Access Specialists (CASp),to reduce the cost to the applicant of CASp testing and certification, and to strengthen the CASp program. This bill specifies that any person(s) applying for a local business license, or equivalent instrument, or permit, and any applicant for the renewal of a business license, or equivalent instrument, or permit,beginning January 1,2013 and until December 31, 2018, shall pay an additional fee of one dollar($1)which shall be collect by the city, county, or city and county that issued the business license, instrument, or permit. SB 1186 enables the city, county, or city and county to retain 70 percent of the fees collected under this section to be used to fund increased CASp services in that jurisdiction for the public and to facilitate compliance with construction-related accessibility requirements. The remaining 30 percent of all fees that will be collected under this section shall be transmitted on a quarterly basis to the Division of the State Architect(DSA) for deposit in the Disability Access and Updated: 4/30/2014 by Linda Sutherland C Packet Pg. 17 3110 Education Revolving Fund.
