STAFF REPORT
i
On January 17, 1998, the Boy Scouts of America will conduct
their 4th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade . The theme
for this year is Youth, The Future of our Nation.
The organization is requesting a waiver of all city fees for
j personnel and equipment for this event . The Mayor has
denied the request and, therefore, it is being placed on the
Agenda for consideration by the Mayor and Common Council .
The letter containing the request was received by the
Mayor' s Office on December 8, 1997 . There has not been
sufficient time for affected city departments to do cost
estimates and forward that information to the City
Administrator' s Office for preparation of this agenda item.
Therefore, below is a recap of the figures from last year' s
parade, which the organization indicates is identical to
this year' s in scope and route.
Police sworn and non-sworn personnel costs to process the
application, man the parade route and provide safe conduct
for the event was $594 . 65 . The Public Services Department
estimated street/refuse personnel to provide street sweeping
and trash collection to be $423 . 27 . Total cost to the city
was estimated at $1, 017 . 92 .
