Synopsis of Previous Council Action:
01/22/13 Resolution No. 2013-14 - The Mayor and Common Council authorized the execution
of a first amendment to an Agreement and issuance of a Purchase Order to Cal Stripe,
Inc., for citywide traffic striping and pavement markings.
11/07/11 Resolution No. 2011-296 - The Mayor and Common Council awarded a Contract to
Cal Stripe, Inc., for annual citywide maintenance services for traffic striping and
pavement marking (2011-2012), Special Provisions No. 11329.
Background:
The City of San Bernardino, Public Works Department, is responsible for maintaining the traffic
striping and pavement markings on City streets. These markings are essential for the safety of
the driving and walking public. Currently, much of the traffic striping and pavement markings
on City streets is faded and needs to be replaced.
In July, 2011, the Engineering Division issued Bid & Contract Documents for annual city-wide
maintenance of traffic striping and pavement markings (Special Provisions No. 11329). On
November 7, 2011, the Mayor and Common Council awarded a contract to Cal Stripe, Inc. The

amount of the award was $200,000 for FY 11/12 with four (4) one-year renewals at the City's
option.
On January 22, 2013, the Mayor and Common Council approved the First Amendment to the
Annual Maintenance Services Contract with Cal Stripe, Inc., to extend the term for up to three
years with annual one-year renewals at the sole discretion of the City. This allowed the
agreement to be extended yearly through June 30, 2015. The amount of the Agreement was for
$200,000.
Staff is requesting that the Director of Administrative Services be authorized and directed to
transfer $500,000 from Gas Tax to the General Fund Account 001-400-0088-5502
"Professional/Contractual Services", budgeted and approve by MCC. Also authorize the
execution of a Second Amendment to the Agreement and issue an Annual Purchase Order in the
amount of$500,000 to Cal Stripe, Inc., for citywide traffic striping and pavement markings.

19 SECTION 3. The Director of Administrative Services or his designee is hereby

authorized and directed to issue an Annual Purchase Order in the amount of$500,000 to Cal
21 Stripe, Inc., which shall reference this resolution and shall incorporate the terms and

23 conditions of this Agreement.
24 SECTION 4. The authorization to execute the above-referenced Agreement is
25 rescinded if it is not executed by both parties within sixty (60) days of the passage of this

Resolution.
