Synopsis of Previous Council Action:
08/5/13 Report to the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San Bernardino Regarding the
Emergency Purchase of a New Air Conditioner Unit at the Police Department Building,
Ic 710 North D Street.
Backl1round:
The Public Works Department, Operations & Maintenance Division, is responsible for
maintaining City buildings. Over the past several months one of the four air conditioner units at
the Police Department building located at 710 North D Street has been failing and operating at
50% capacity. On July 11, 2013 the unit failed completely. The failed unit provides cooling to
the main office portion of the building. Due to the summer heat, it was essential that the air
conditioner unit be replaced as quickly as possible.
Quotes were received and a Purchase Order was issued to Western Allied Corporation in the
amount of $128,906 for the purchase and installation of the new unit. In order to keep the
building open during the 4-6 week delivery of the new unit, quotes were received and a Purchase
Order was issued to Trane Rental Services in the amount of$22,667.20 for the two-month rental
of a temporary air conditioner unit.
Staff recommends that the Mayor and Common Council authorize the appropriation of an
additional $151,573.20 to fund the cost of the new air conditioner unit and rental of the
temporary air conditioner unit at the Police Department, 710 North D Street utilizing the general
fund.
