Synopsis of Previous Council Action: None Background: This north-south section of Genevieve Street between 30th and 31st Street is very narrow. Driveways are very short so residents must park on both sides of the street. Without sidewalks or street lights, there is no safe place to walk or bicycle or even stroller their children throughout the neighborhood except on the street in and around cars while north-south traffic flows at high rates of speed. Some of the residents of this section of Genevieve Street between 30th and 31 st Street have lived on this street for over 50 years and have never had the safety of sidewalks or street lights. The residents, represented in the attached petition, have patiently waited for the City to install sidewalks and street lights. This action is a request to undertake the process to plan for, and fund such a project, through gas tax monies provided by taxpayers just like those signing this petition, if the City Manager is so directed. There are also trees on this stretch of Genevieve that will require removal as they are tearing up sewer laterals and causing property damage. With the installation of sidewalks and the removal of very old root invasive trees (and replanting smaller less root invasive trees), the City will realize savings from minimizing damage to sewer laterals within the City right-of-ways.
