Background-
The Department of Public Works received a request to prohibit parking on Wabash Street west
of Pepper Tree Lane. A resident that lives in this area circulated a petition and has made this
request in order to alleviate several concerns associated with on-street parking in this location.
The resident claims that people frequently park their vehicles in front of the homes, leaving
trash, blocking driveways and disturbing residents. The requester also claims that on several
occasions trash pick-up has been impacted by vehicles parking too close to the trash bins. The
requester indicates that other residents in the area are having the same problems.
The requester circulated a petition requesting the par 'ng prohibition among the neighbors. The
petition requested a parking prohibition, however, it also included a provision for residents to be
exempted from the prohibition making this, in of ect, a request for a "Residential Parking
Permit" program. The petition was circulated for the section of Wabash Street between Parkside
Drive and Pepper Tree Lane, as this was deemed as file area that is most affected by the parking

problems.
The segment of Wabash Street between Parkside Drive and Pepper Tree Lane consists of
fourteen residential properties, excluding an apartment complex located on the north side of the
street. Among the 14 properties is a vacant lot and a home that is currently vacant. Seven of the
residents signed the petition. A follow-up effort by staff managed to get an additional three
signatures. The remaining two residents did not sign the petition but did not necessarily object to
the proposed "Residential Parking Permit" program.
In view of the support by residents, staff recommends that a "Residential Parking Permit"
program be established on Wabash Street between Parkside Drive and Pepper Tree Lane. The
Sun Pointe Village Apartment complex lies on the north side of Wabash Street between 135 feet
west of Pepper Tree Lane and 400 feet west of Pepper Tree Lane. This area has been excluded
from the proposed Resolution.

PARKING PETITION
J
We as homeowners are requesting to have a restricted parking sign for the L
homes located in the 400 block of Wabash street between Pepper Tree Lane
and Parkside streets, opposite of The Sunpointe Village Apartments.
a
This request comes as a result of the high volume of non-residences) who 0
are parking in front of our homes and leaving their trash, performing lewd
te ." l'locklnb eur dr:ve 'u,'s. n se.rer? uvCaS2o^S our trash se 'ce N
weren't picked up because their vehicle was parked to close to the trash bins. a
The problems stems from the individuals who are going into the Sunpointe o
Village Apartment complex. Although we have brought our concerns to the
owners of the apartment complex, to no avail the problem still exists. y
As homeowners we would like "HOMEOWNER PARKING ONLY"
signs, designated for the homes opposite of the Sunpointe Village Apartment
complex, c
