This memorandum is to inform the Mayor and Common Council that our
prosecuting attorney has accepted employment with the San Bernardino County M
i Public Defender's Office. His last day of employment was June 28, 2013.

Therefore, we respectfully request that the Mayor and Common Council
E
approve the appointment of Mr. Jason M. Ewert as a Deputy City Attorney 1. He will be
compensated at the initial salary step for a Deputy City Attorney 1 ($6,896.00 per month) o
and his employment will commence on July 16, 2013. This office does not presently
have sufficient attorney staff to prosecute the 3,010 misdemeanors and the 8,489 ;
infraction cases that are currently pending in Superior Court. These criminal cases are 3
in addition to the Administrative Civil Penalties, administrative citations, oversight of the -�
gang and prostitution injunctions, the initiation of a panhandler injunction, an additional 3
prostitution injunction and numerous nuisance abatement cases that need to be w
prepared and filed by the City prosecutor. o
