On November 7, 2006, California voters passed Proposition 84, effectively approving grant
funding of $368 million to critically underserved communities throughout California via a state-
wide park program. Qualifying communities could receive up to $5 million per park improvement
or newly established park facility project. The California State Parks Office of Grants & Local
Services (OGALS) has announced a competitive grant application process for the most needy
communities. The City of San Bernardino will be submitting multiple grant applications in March
2010 and is seeking the help of San Bernardino residents to form ideas for new park amenities,
identify needs in existing open spaces, address public safety concerns in parks, and suggest
potential new park developments throughout the city.
