Financial Imnact:
There is no matching fund requirement on the part of the City.
There is no financial impact to the City's general fund.

Synopsis of Previous Council Action:
04/18/2012 Resolution 2012-068 Ratifying the Submittal of an Application for a Sobriety
Checkpoint Grant from the State of California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) in the Amount of
$166,266.64 and Authorizing the Police Department to Accept and Administer the Grant.
Background:
The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), through a partnership with the University of
California, Berkeley, is currently awarding grant funds to local jurisdictions in the form of
Sobriety Checkpoint Grants. OTS funding is based on the federal fiscal year beginning October
1, 2013, ending September 30, 2014. The grant application is due no later than January 15,
2013. The Police Department has been awarded and has administered similar grants throughout
the years.
The Police Department will use Checkpoint Grant funds, if awarded, to reimburse overtime
expenditures for DUI checkpoints that will be conducted throughout the grant period. In this
grant, the Police Department has applied for funding to cover 18 separate DUI checkpoints. This
grant will also be used to reimburse costs for equipment and supplies purchased to be used at
DUI checkpoints.

9 ratify the Police Department's submittal of an application for a Checkpoint Grant from the
10 State of California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) in the amount of$167,971.48 for overtime, v

benefits accrued from overtime hours would be covered(i.e.,retirement,medical/denlaWsion insurance,uniform allowances would not be covered),
Only state-run disability and unemployment insurance charges would be covered.Indirect costs would not be covered(e.g.,individuals who are

Grant funded operations may be conducted by personnel such as an officer,sergeant,corporal,deputy,community services officer,dispatcher,etc.
