H. Gordon, the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church was organized. The first business meeting was held at the home of Sister Nannie Craig, as it was agreed that all future meetings would be held there until a church could be built. On December 11, 1929, the Zion Baptist Church, under the pastorate of acting Pastor Reverend G. P. Little was consolidated with St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, the membership St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church has grown tremendously over the years and has blessed and served many within the San Bernardino community; and WHEREAS, in later months of 1986, a major remodeling project began in order to enhance the church building and a new public address system was installed in the sanctuary. In January 1987, Reverend Percy Harper was ordained in the ministry. In April of 1988, he was installed as the fourth pastor in the 84 year history of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at 3:30 p.m., St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate their 84th Church Anniversary. They invite all to come to worship and celebrate with them. Their theme for 2012 is, "The Faithful are Called, Chosen and Committed." NOW, THEREFORE, on this occasion, and in appreciation of their leadership, dedication and impressive contribution to the City of San Bernardino and its citizens, we, on behalf of the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San Bernardino, do enjoin, commend and congratulate ST. MARK MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH on their 84th CHURCH ANNIVERSARY for their outstanding and exemplary record ofpublic service to the City of San Bernardino. St.Mark Missionary Baptist Church Church History On November 25, 1928, a meeting was held at the home of Sister Nannie Craig,and under the guidance of the late Rev. C.H. On March 15, 1931,groundbreaking ceremonies were held. The actual work on the edifice started on March 16, 1931. On the fifth Sunday in May 1932, the first service was held in the new church. Rev. Frank James preached the first sermon at the eleventh hour. On this same day the dedicational sermon was preached by Rev. Carmichael,Pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of San Bernardino. On December 17, 1939,at 3:30pm,the mortgage of St. Mark was burned, and there was great rejoicing for the vision of the church had been realized- On August 23, 1942,Rev, C.H. Gordon closed his life standing behind the rostrum,thus ending his life span as organizer and first pastor of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. Following the death of Rev. C.H. Gordon,the interim pastor was Rev. W.C. Goodwin who served until Rev. Floyde was installed as pastor of St. Mark. His tenure lasted approximately two years. On May 14, 1944,Rev. Freeman R. Williams preached his first sermon at St. Mark Then on August 23, 1944,he was installed as full pastor by Rev. W.M. Thomas,Rev. Frank James,and Rev. Amos. The church started to move with increased membership. The need for a larger building became a necessity. Worship services were held at the Valley Recreational Center, while the church was being rebuilt. The new edifice was completed in 1947—48. Rev. Williams arranged for a great dedication of the new place of worship, which was held on November 14, 1954 at 3:30pm. Rev. Charles Hampton,Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church San Diego, California,preached the dedication sermon. In the later months of 1986, a major remodeling project began in order to enhance our church building and a new public address system was installed in the sanctuary. In January 1987,Rev. Percy Harper was ordained in the ministry to be of further service to the church and pastor Rev. Freeman R. Williams. As Rev. F.R. Williams' health began to fail,Rev. Percy Harper was appointed minister in charge. On September 18, 1987,the Lord completed his work in the fife of Pastor Freeman R. Williams, Sr. when he was called from labor to reward. Rev. Percy Harper was selected to serve as interim pastor on January 13 1988, and was elected as pastor on April 14, 1988, and became the fourth pastor in our eight4e year history. Pastor Harper' installation service was held on August 14, 1988. Those taking part in the service were ev. Wayman Brown, Moderator of the Tri-County District Association,Dr. LeMar Foster,First Vice Moderator of the Tri-County District Association, a representative of the Western Baptist We thank God for the many souls that he has added to our church to advance his cause. We will continue to prayerfully look to our heavenly father the author and finisher of every good and perfect gift,to lead us on in the years to come, so that we can complete the tasks that are before us. o _ -0) City of San Bernardino RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR & COMMON COUNCIL HONORING SUSAN KITCHEN F HEE DEDICATION TO THE CITY OF SAN DFJMRDINO WHEREAS, Susan Kitchen has been working at the Chamber since 1992. She began as a Division Coordinator, staffing such Chamber Divisions as Community Affairs, Business Support and Governmental Affairs. She progressed in her Chamber career to become the Executive Assistant of the San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce;and WHEREAS, Susan has excellent common sense and is always available at a moment's notice to fill in when needed. As the Executive Assistant, she was responsible for king sure the overall structure of the facility was in proper shape,and WHEREAS, Susan's excellent working relationships with State legislators and their staff allowed the Chamber to annually lobby for businesses and our City in hopes of influencing positive legislative outcomes bile advocating for the State's help in growing the economic health of our City and its residents;and WHEREAS, Susan's team playing attitude in working with the Vice Presidents of the Chamber 'visions resulted in the successful production of many annual events, including the Law Enforcement Recognition Dinners, Officer Installation Dinners, Golf Tournaments and Candidate Forums. Her ability to work with the community resulted in special projects such as "Crime Night Out" and Chamber sponsored activities for the local minor league baseball team. Susan's follow-through, fine-tuning, and creative skills enhanced every event,and WHEREAS, Somptimist International of San Bernardino is one of Susan's many philanthropic cessions. She increased the membership by recruiting professional women throughout San Bernardino, explaining the purpose of Soroptimist International which reaches out to women in all walks of life helping them to achieve a higher quality of life for themselves. Susan served two separate terms as president, received the Soroptimist of the year award and formulated the popular annual fundraiser, The Soroptimist Tea"which just celebrated its 19th year of success.
