Motion: Authorize the Director of Public Works to execute Contract Change Order No. One with New West Signal, Inc., for Repair, Replacement, and Upgrade of the Lighting System at Various Locations in the City of San Bernardino in the amount of$19,276.23. 1 Synopsis of Previous Council Action: 04-02-12 Resolution No. 2012-56 -The Mayor and Common Council awarded a contract to New West Signal, Inc., for repair,replacement, and upgrade of the lighting system at various locations in the amount of$199,513. Backp_round• On April 2, 2012,the Mayor and Common Council adopted Resolution No. 2012-56, authorizing the award of a contract to New West Signal, Inc., for repair,replacement, and upgrade of the lighting system at various locations per Bid Document No. 12583. The proposed repairs, replacements, and upgrades to the street lighting system included: repairing and replacement of Olight fixture components,installation of conductors and connections, securing pull boxes with Updated: 8/2/2012 by Linda Sutherland A 1929 concrete, securing hand hole covers with tamper-proof screws,replacement of entire luminaries, lamps,ballasts, starters,igniters, fuses,lenses,reflectors,connective wiring, fuse holders,photo cells,reflectors,and shorting caps that have failed due to theft,vandalism, normal aging or deterioration. The contract also provides for the general component cleaning of fixtures during any repair on luminaries that may interfere with the illumination of the street. As an extension of the contract,New West Signal repaired a portion of the lighting system at Lytle Creek Park. The park area and restroom lighting were inoperable due to theft and vandalism of the system conductors, causing a severe health and safety issue. The parking lots on the east side of the park and the park road lights were repaired by installing new conductors into the existing conduits. The electric panel was rewired and the restroom lighting was also restored. The repair cost for this work will be charged to Fund 243,various park construction. The total change order amount was $19,276.23. The work was completed in accordance with City standards and has been accepted by the field inspector. Staff is recommending approval of this contract change order.
