Whereas, George has achieved the highest rank in the Boy Scouts
of America, that of an Eagle Scout; and
Whereas, George has accomplished this by mastering and
demonstrating various leadership skills; and

Whereas, for his service project, George replanted flowers on an
island at a fork in the main road of Barton Road in Grand Terrace,
California. He also repainted a wall that nuns along the same road as
the island does on the north side of the road; and
Whereas, George has completed the necessary requirements and
has been examined by an Eagle Scout Board of Review.
Now, therefore, on behalf of the Mayor and Common Council of

by the California Inland Empire Council,Boy Scouts of America on May 24,2011.
In honor of this achievement,we have scheduled an Eagle Scout Court of Honor
on August 18,2012 at 7:00 p.m. Located at: 250 W Laurel St Colton, CA 92324.
This letter is to ask for your assistance in recognizing the achievements and service of Eagle Scout
George M. Candray a resident of San Bernardino, CA.

3rd Ward Recognition of Eagle Scouts

2 The Eagle Scout award is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting
3 program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).A Scout who attains this rank is
a called an Eagle Scout or Eagle. Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout
s rank has been earned by more than 2 million young men. The title of Eagle
6 Scout is held for life, thus giving rise to the phrase "Once an Eagle, always an
7 Eagle."
s Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges and demonstrating
9 Scout Spirit through the Boy Scout Oath and Law, service, and leadership. This
10 includes an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads,
11 and manages. Eagle Scouts are presented with a medal and a badge that
12 visibly recognizes the accomplishments of the Scout. Additional recognition
13 can be earned through Eagle Palms, awarded for completing additional
14 tenure, leadership, and merit badge requirements.
15 Requirements
16 Eagle Scout may be earned by a Boy Scout or Varsity Scout who has been a
17 Life Scout for at least six months, earns a minimum of 21 merit badges,
18 demonstrates Scout Spirit, and demonstrates leadership in the troop, team,
19 crew or ship. He must plan, develop, and lead a service project— the Eagle
20 Project —that demonstrates both leadership and a commitment to duty. He
21 must then take part in a Scoutmaster conference. After all requirements are
22 met, he must complete an Eagle Scout board of review. He can complete the
23 board of review after his 18th birthday as long as all other requirements are
24 completed before his 18th birthday.[12] Venturers and Sea Scouts who
25 attained First Class as a Boy Scout or Varsity Scout in a troop or team may
26 continue working toward the Star, Life and Eagle Scout ranks, as well as Eagle
27 Palms, while registered as a Venturer or Sea Scout up to their 18th birthday.
28 Scouts with a permanent mental or physical disability may use alternate
29 requirements based on abilities, if approved by the council. Eagle Scout may
3o be awarded posthumously, if and only if all requirements except the board of
31 review are completed before death. A board of review may be held and the

1 award presented to the Scout's family. The Spirit of the Eagle Award is an
2 honorary posthumous special recognition for any registered youth member
3 who has died in an accident or through illness. Of the 21 merit badges, 12 are

s Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Communications, Personal
6 Fitness, Environmental Science, Personal Management, Camping, Family Life,
7 Emergency Preparedness or Lifesaving, and Swimming or Hiking or Cycling
8 Famous Recipients
9 At least forty astronauts earned the rank as a youth, including Neil Armstrong
10 and Charles Duke who walked on the moon.[48] Businessmen who have
11 earned the award include Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton,[37] Marriott
12 International CEO J. W. Marriott, Jr.,[33] and Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of
13 New York City and founder of Bloomberg L.P.
14 Eagle Scouts can be found in prominent public offices, as recipients include
15 38th President of the United States Gerald R. Ford,[49] 22nd U.S. Secretary of
16 Defense Robert Gates,[33][37] 13th and 21st U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald
17 Rumsfeld,[50] and Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court Stephen
18 Breyer.[3 7][5 1] In academia, Eagle Scouts are represented by Pulitzer Prize-
19 winner E.O. Wilson, Gordon Gee, President of Ohio State University, and Kim
20 B. Clark former Dean of the Harvard Business School.[33][52]
