CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
Subject:
Resolution authorizing the installation of a 2-way stop at the intersection of 35th Street and
j Mayfield Avenue.
Background:
The Traffic Engineering Section of the Development Services Department received a request
from a citizen to evaluate the intersection of 35th Street and Mayfield Avenue for two-way stop
control. Currently the intersection is uncontrolled.
Staff evaluated the request. The intersection of 35th Street and Mayfield Avenue is an
uncontrolled intersection whereas all other intersections immediately adjacent to it have stop
controls. Staff determined that installation of a two-way stop would enhance intersection safety,
make it consistent with all the other intersections immediately adjacent to it and that it satisfies
state warrants for two-way stop control. The investigation further indicates that Mayfield
Avenue should stop for 35a' Street. This will make north and southbound traffic stop for east
and westbound traffic.
Staff, therefore, recommends that the attached Resolution be approved for establishing two-way
stop controls at the intersection of 35th Street and Mayfield Avenue.
Financial Impact:
The estimated cost of$ 500.00 for installing the stop signs will come from Account No. 001-
402-5111 (Street Maintenance).
Recommendation:
Adopt Resolution.
