Supporting Documents: SB Military Banner Criteria update 11-28-12 (PDF) I� packet�g1 Updated: 11/28/2012 by Linda Sutherland 1 7.o.a I Attachment 1 SAN BERNARDINO HOMETOWN HEROES MILITARY BANNER PROGRAM The San Bernardino Hometown Heroes Military Banner Program will recognize the brave men and women of San Bernardino currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. The Z. CU personalized banners will be displayed on light poles up and down the major streets throughout a the City to honor, celebrate, and remind residents of their dedication to our country. d P Criteria To qualify,honorees must meet the following criteria: o • Active duty member of the United States Armed Forces, Guard or Reserves; and c • Current City of San Bernardino resident; or m • Have graduated from a San Bernardino high school or college; or co • Immediate family member of a current resident or City of San Bernardino employee (wife/husband, son/daughter, grandson/granddaughter, son-in-law/daughter-in-law) c N _ Please note: annual verification of active duty status will be required o _ co Display Areas °' The military banners will be on display continuously at various locations throughout the City. The military banners will be installed by the City and removed when the banners are damaged or .. if the service person is no longer in the military. The City will not be responsible for replacing N banners that are stolen, damaged or destroyed due to sun,weather, age, vandalism or any act of N nature beyond the City's control such as high winds. Timing of the banner installation and N removal will be at the City's discretion. as r R ID Cost a The purchase of banners is funded entirely through donations. Banner cost is to be determined, 3 which includes the banner,hardware, and installation. Banners shall be displayed for a specified r period of time,before being retired and given to the hero or the celebrated hero's family. v Families may choose to purchase a banner or can be placed on a waiting list until sufficient donations are received to cover the cost. Banners will be raised in the order that the application was received, as long as there are sufficient funds in the donation account to do so. If a banner application was received prior to the installation date and there are not sufficient funds a to produce and raise the banner,that application will be processed for the next installation date, provided that funding is available. r Based on funding availability,priority will be given to service persons who are current residents of the City of San Bernardino. Applications that are accompanied by the banner fee will be aa) produced and raised at the next installation date.
