CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO — REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
Subject:
Installation Of Sculptures Created By The California State University San
Bernardino Art Department Faculty And Students For Chancellor's Park.
Background:
California State University San Bernardino (CSUSB) Art Professors
Richard Johnston, Kathy Gray and their students have developed a
proposal for the design, fabrication, and installation of sculptures for
Chancellor's Park located at the entrance to CSUSB at Kendall Avenue
and Campus Parkway. The addition of this artwork will complete the
park and is timed to coincide with the City's 2010 Bicentennial
Celebration.
The sculptures will be made of metal and designed to depict indigenous
wildlife of the San Bernardino region such as deer and red tailed hawks.
Funding for the creation and placement of these sculptures was made
possible by a $50,000.00 grant from James and Judy Watson.
To proceed with this project, the CSUSB Art Department needs the City's
approval to allow it to place the sculptures at Chancellor's Park.
Financial Impact:
None
Recommendation:
That the City of San Bernardino allow the California State University
San Bernardino Art Department to place and install its sculptures at
Chancellor's Park.
