Honorable Judith Valles
Mayor, City of San Bernardino
300 North"D"Street
San Bernardino,CA 92418
Dear Judy:
Tbanks for attending the reception at my home honoring Latino civic leaders a few weeks
ago. I really appreciate that you took time from your hectic schedule.
As you know from hearing me speak,Cal State,San Bernardino has grown rapidly to
over 14,000 students, with more than 70 majors and programs offered in five academic
colleges.Major recent initiatives include efforts to build a permanent off-campus center
in Coachella Valley,developing a Water Resources Tnstitute,initiating a new
Community-University Partnership Center, and creating an Entrepreneurship Institute.
The latter three undertakings will,I hope, support the BIG strategy.
I'd like to discuss these and other developments in more detail at a luncheon workshop
with you and members of the Council as soon as convenient for you all.
I'm excited about the chance for dialogue because there are so marry opportunities for the
University and the City to work together to improve access to and the quality of
higher education for students, and to meet the needs of business and government through
the development and sharing of resources, information and expertise.
I look forward to this important workshop. I'll ask Amina Carter, our Coordinator of
Governmental Relations,to help schedule a time I might visit.
Regards, /
